CAD Designer
Renaissance Fusion (RF) is the first Magnetic Confinement Fusion company in the EU. We are building the first net-energy producing stellarator by combining proprietary innovations in modular design, the manufacturing of next-generation High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets, and liquid-metal (LM) walls. We are forming a team of the brightest, most driven scientists and engineers to realize and commercialize our non-fusion products within 2 years and integrated fusion solutions within 10 years.
Our team is agile, international, and based in the exciting city of Grenoble, by the French Alps.
Our Liquid Metal department develops key technologies for Renaissance Fusion projects: liquid metal walls, circulation systems, heat exchangers, complex conduits, high temperature diagnostics, and infrastructures enabling the handling of liquid metals in vacuum environments and under extreme constraints.
These systems require high precision mechanical design, perfect materials expertise, and close integration with the vacuum, thermal, process, instrumentation, and magnetic teams.
We are looking for a skilled Designer to join our Liquid Metal team. In this role you will design, model, and industrialize mechanical parts and subassemblies involved in the handling and shaping of liquid metals, considering thermal, geometric, mechanical constraints, and compatibility with vacuum and experimental systems.
Responsibilities
Design tanks, pipes, flow systems, mechanical supports, and high‑temperature components that will form the experiments conducted in the department
Produce accurate 3D models (structures, piping, chambers, interfaces, tooling) for systems using liquid metal
Produce detailed 2D drawings, tolerances, and fabrication‑ready documents
Participate in the assembly and potentially in the operation of the designed elements
Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews
Create and maintain technical documentation (definition files, nomenclature, procedures, notes)
Support manufacturing, assembly, and integration on R&D test benches
Contribute to optimizing mechanical solutions and propose concrete improvements
Integrate the specific constraints of the department:
Vacuum / ultra‑high vacuum compatibility
High‑temperature thermal management
Liquid metal safety and containment
Complex geometries for flow dynamics
Consideration of high magnetic fields
Work closely with:
Engineers (mechanical, thermal, hydraulic)
Vacuum team
Instrumentation and sensors
Materials and cryogenics
Processes and safety
Requirements
Don't hesitate to apply even if you don't match all the requirements. Superheroes don't exist, but people with passion and talent do.
Education and professional experience
BTS / DUT / Bachelor’s degree in mechanical design or equivalent
At least 5 years of experience in a design office
Experience in an R&D, energy, or experimental equipment environment is much appreciated
Languages
English (C1)
French (B1 or more) is a plus
Technical skills
Excellent command of a 3D CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia...)
Very good knowledge of complex assembly design, ISO / GD&T tolerancing, metallic and high temperature materials, machining / welding / manufacturing of scientific parts
Experience in one of the following fields is a plus: vacuum systems, thermal design, fluids or metallurgy, special machines
