Electrical Automation and Software Engineer
We are looking for an Electrical Automation and Software Engineer to join the Magnets and Cryogenics Department, dedicated to the development of superconducting magnets that will play a key role in the success of our projects as essential components of our fusion reactor, as well as for other non-fusion-related applications.
In this context, you will be involved in the design and implementation of electrical systems integrated into the special machines developed by Renaissance Fusion, while adhering to quality, cost, and time constraints.
The role also includes the development of hardware and software for data acquisition systems.
Responsibilities
Design schematics and panel layouts for electrical power & PLC control cabinets for coil winding machine prototypes.
Contribute to improvements in the process control of coil winding machines
Select electrical and power electronic components for the assembly of electrical cabinets.
Assembly of electrical cabinets
Collaborate with mechanical design, and process engineers to ensure electrical designs meet functional specifications and safety standards.
Design the architecture of the control and data acquisition systems (PLC / HMI)
Programming of automation components (Siemens, Beckhoff) and HMI for both coil-winding machines and High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnet data acquisition systems.
Troubleshoot sensors and instruments used for the characterization of HTS magnet prototypes
Select electrical safety and power electronic components (10kA/10V) for the operation of HTS magnets
Develop novel solutions and contribute to new intellectual property
Write high-quality documentation of electrical systems and components, including specifications and operation manuals, maintain revision control
Train users
Participate in the writing of scientific papers
Requirements

Education and professional experience
Master’s degree in electrical engineering, automation or a related field
5+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering and automation
Previous experience with superconducting magnets, cryogenic systems, and / or coil winding machines is a plus
Languages
Fluent in English (C1)
Knowledge (B1 or higher) of French is a plus
Technical skills
Circuits design: AutoCAD Electrical, See Electrical, EPLAN
Experience in automation (PLC programming, HMI Design), ideally working with Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar technologies
Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems
Experience with test bench sensors such as thermocouples, thermistors, strain gauges, Hall probes, load cells is a plus
