Technical Procurement Engineer
Are you an engineer with broad technical interests and the willingness to support cutting edge R&D by procuring special parts and components for our one-of-a-kind machines?
Reporting to the High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) Materials Department, we are looking for a Technical Procurement Engineer to work closely with our R&D team specialized in thin-film deposition. The role involves understanding complex technical challenges, translating them into technical specifications and parts to be developed or sourced, and interacting daily with suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Internal alignment before placing orders
- In collaboration with colleagues from R&D in HTS Department, identify “purchase specifications”, i.e. the specifications of new parts and components to be purchased, including off-the-shelf and custom-made products and services.
- Identify suppliers that meet or exceed our technical requirements. Work with the internal Buyer(s) to select and qualify the final suppliers, based on additional elements (lead time, cost, etc.).
- Pass the baton our internal Buyer(s) for price and lead-time negotiations, and for the actual purchase.
- In collaboration with Project Management Officers (PMO) and colleagues from other departments, identify synergies in terms of lump orders or shared resources.
- Monitoring and internal updates on orders placed
- Monitor the ordering, custom-manufacturing (if any), transportation, possible issues with customs and taxes, and quality check at final delivery.
- Regularly update requesters about the status of their orders. Where appropriate, also update the Head, Deputy Head, PMOs, CFO, and Buyers. Proactively alert them on major delays and issues and propose solutions.
- External procurement
- Work with suppliers to define technical requirements guaranteeing that the procured product will meet quality, reliability, cost, yield and manufacturability requirements.
- Continuously grow our database of potential HTS suppliers. Familiarize with their capabilities and offers. Consult third parties for references.
- Check component/material quality issues upon delivery or as they arise. Be the point of contact with suppliers in case of non-compliance.
- Ensure compliance with Renaissance Fusion’s supply-chain processes and policies and give feedback and suggestions to the buyer to support continuous improvement (workflow efficiencies).
Requirements
Feel free to apply even if you only meet 70% of the requirements. Superheroes do not exist, but people with talent and passion do!
Education and professional experience
We are looking for a colleague with an engineering background, who is attuned to supply chain challenges and skilled in procurement and logistics — but above all, an engineer at heart.
- MSc degree in mechanical, electrical engineering, material science or related subject.
- 3+ years in product development and high-tech environment, preferably in film-deposition industries (semiconductors, photovoltaic, aerospace etc.).
- 3+ years of experience in supplier management, preferably of vacuum and mechanical components, materials and systems for film deposition, sensors, motors, and fluid and gas management systems.
- Experience with the American Society for Testing of Materials (ASTM) standards and their relationship to manufacturing processes is a plus.
Languages
- Fluent in English (C1 or higher)
- Intermediate knowledge of French (B2 or higher)
Technical skills
- Ability to read and write technical documentation (instruction manuals, datasheets etc.).
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Working methods imposed by a quality system is a plus.
