Magnetic Field Metrologist
We are looking for a Magnetic Field Metrologist to join the Magnets and Cryogenics team. The ideal candidate has a problem-solving mindset and exceptional creativity. She/he will perform and analyse magnetic field measurements on HTS magnets using advanced tools to ensure alignment with design specifications.
Responsibilities
- Measures & analysis
- Set up and calibrate magnetic measurement instruments such as Hall probes, rotating coils, pickup coils, SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices), and NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) sensors.
- Perform magnetic field measurements on HTS magnets in both warm and cryogenic conditions, depending on test requirements.
- Generate detailed magnetic field maps to characterize field uniformity, multipole content, and potential field errors.
- Analyse measurement data to identify discrepancies between the actual magnetic field and the expected theoretical design.
- Detect and diagnose misalignments, asymmetries, or manufacturing defects that may impact magnet performance.
- Collaborate with design and simulation teams to validate or refine magnet models based on empirical data.
- Document test procedures, data, and analysis results, and contribute to internal knowledge bases and technical reports.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of measurement techniques, instrumentation, and data processing workflows.
- Scientific outcome
- Prepare scientific reports, presentations, posters, etc., and represent Renaissance Fusion to scientific conferences, workshops, dedicated panels and/or the general public.
- Proactively propose and/or contribute to the writing of patent filings and scientific papers.
- Put forward proposals for collaborations and grants.
