Fluid Mechanical Modeler
We are looking for a liquid metal modeler to develop numerical tools and uses them to predict, interpret and optimize free-surface liquid metal experiments and their interplay with fusion plasmas and solid objects, as well as with magnetic fields, temperature gradients.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Modelling and analysis
- Numerical modelling and theoretical analysis of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows relevant to stellarator design such as: duct and open-channel flows, multi-phase flows, wall-bounded MHD turbulence subject to heat and/or mass transfers, magnetic field gradients etc.
- Provide expertise and critical analysis of numerical results to give insight on the relevant physical mechanisms at stake.
- Setup and sustain external collaborations with academic and/or industrial partners on computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) topics.
- Define technical solution to meet process engineer’s specifications.
Scientific outcome
- Prepare scientific reports (presentations, posters, etc.) and represent Renaissance Fusion to scientific conferences and workshops.
- Participate in the writing of patents and scientific papers.
- Remain on the lookout for any scientific developments in his/her field of expertise.
Requirements
Do not hesitate to apply if you don’t meet all the requirements. Superheroes don’t exist, but people with talent and passion do!
Education and professional experience
- PhD or Master’s degree + equivalent experience in mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, computational science or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in numerical modeling of magnetohydrodynamic flows or CFD
- Free-surface and multiphase flows modeling turbulence closing schemes, heat and mass transfers.
Languages
- Fluent in English (C1)
- Knowledge (B1 or higher) of French is a plus
Technical skills
- 3+ years hands on experience with OPENFOAM (CFD software)
- Knowledge and experience of one or several numerical methods such as Finite Volume, Finite Element, or other methods for solving Partial Differential Equations.
- Programming skills in a scientific computing language (Python, MATLAB, C++, Fortran…).
- Knowledge in computer-aided design, meshing, algorithm, solvers, etc.
