Group Leader Liquid Metal Engineering
We are looking for a Group leader of Liquid Metal (LM) Engineering to take part in the technical activities and oversee a team dedicated to thinking, designing and building LM systems, comprising a mechanical engineer, a control engineer, and a thermohydraulic engineer. The key to success lies in seamless integration with both the Experimental and the Numerical Liquid Metal Magneto-Hydro-Dynamics teams.
Your main responsibilities will be:
*Mechanical Design:
- Lead and actively contribute to the design and modelling of new mechanical parts, equipment, or machines, considering defined technical and financial constraints.
- Oversee the creation of detailed CAD models, collaborating closely with the team to integrate input and output data for each project.
*Control Systems Management:
- Supervise and possibly contribute to the development and implementation of control feedback loops to stabilize liquid metal flows using electromagnetic forces.
- Coordinate testing, analysis, and fine-tuning of control systems, selecting suitable sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems.
*Thermohydraulic Engineering:
- Manage research, design, and integration of thermohydraulic systems for our liquid metal loops and future magnetic confinement fusion reactor.
- Coordinate experimental and numerical analysis activities to propose thermohydraulic concepts, model conjugate heat transfer in liquid metal loops, and validate the performance of the selected solutions.
*Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Modeling:
- Multiphysics numerical simulations of supplied CAD models, covering areas such as structural mechanics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), heat transfer, etc.
- Ensure the update and maintenance of simulation results
*Team management:
- Be the ambassador of Renaissance Fusion's vision within his/her team, and promote its culture, values (speed, simplicity, fantastic realism, constructive interference and unified force) and policies.
- Encourage collaboration at all levels of the organization.
- Ensure that his/her team is motivated to achieve its objectives.
- Take an active role in talent development.
- Comply with and enforce the highest Health, Environment and Safety standards within her/his team.
*Scientific outcome
- Coordinate the writing, review and approval of patents and scientific papers.
- Prepare scientific reports (presentations, posters, etc.) and represent Renaissance Fusion to scientific conferences and workshops.
- Remain on the lookout for any scientific developments in his/her field of expertise.
You are the ideal profile if:
*Education and professional experience
- PhD or Master’s degree + equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or related field
- 8+ years of experience in machine design and/or FEM simulations of complex systems and in manufacturing
- Experience as a technical leader/coordinator and/or project management
*Language requirements
- Fluent in English (C1/C2)
- Knowledge (B1 or higher) of French is a plus
*Technical competencies
- Mastering CAD design software such as Inventor, SolidWorks or similar
- Experience with ANSYS, COMSOL Multiphysics or other finite element software, with a good understanding of the mathematical background of such tool
- Knowledge of numerical modelling of scientific or industrial relevance
- Coding in Python, Matlab or other programming language is a plus
