Group Leader Vacuum Technology
We are looking for a Group leader of Vacuum Technology to manage the activities of the vacuum technology group and supervise the detailed design, construction, testing, assembly and operation of vacuum systems for HTS deposition machines, stellarator experimental devices and power plants, while fulfilling the requirements on time, cost and quality.
Your main responsibilities will be:
*Design and analysis:
- Coordinate the development of the detail design, construction, testing, trouble-shooting, maintenance and continuous improvement of vacuum solutions to meet the process engineers’ specifications for thin film deposition
- Supervise compliance of vacuum systems and components with HTS industry standards and with Renaissance Fusion’s specifications
- Coordinate the detailed analysis of pumping characteristics and efficiency for HTS machines, liquid metal experiments and stellarator experimental devices and power plants
- Oversee work with vendors to identify and modify vacuum components for ultra-high vacuum, special vapors and liquid metals, and special geometries
- Work closely with the Renaissance Fusion teams to understand the multi-disciplinary requirements of the project (chemical, electric, magnetic, thermal etc.) project and adapt the vacuum system accordingly
- Supervise the writing of technical documentations, specifications and quality assurance documents in accordance to Renaissance Fusion's guidelines
*Manufacturing/Assembly/Testing:
- Define technical solutions for components, materials, welding techniques, sealing systems, instrumentation, required qualification work and fabrication/assembly techniques
- Supervise the selection of the subcontractors, the in-house or outsourced construction of vacuum components and assemblies
- Monitor cost and schedule with project management officers
- Coordinate the assembly, testing, commissioning and operation of the vacuum components
- Supervise the execution and assessment of the test results
*Team management:
- Be the ambassador of Renaissance Fusion's vision within his/her team, and promote its culture, values (speed, simplicity, fantastic realism, constructive interference and unified force) and policies
- Encourage collaboration at all levels of the organization
- Ensure that his/her team is motivated to achieve its objectives
- Take an active role in talent development
- Comply with and enforce the highest Health, Environment and Safety standards within her/his team
*Scientific outcome:
- Coordinate the writing, review and approval of patents and scientific papers
- Prepare scientific reports (presentations, posters, etc.) and represent Renaissance Fusion to scientific conferences and workshops
- Remain on the lookout for any scientific developments in his/her field of expertise
You are the ideal profile if:
*Education and professional experience:
- PhD or Master’s degree + equivalent experience in mechanical or nuclear engineering, applied physics or related field
- 8+ years of experience in vacuum components design, analysis, construction/testing and operation, of which at least 3+ years as a manager
- 5+ years of experience in preparation of technical specifications
- 3+ years of experience as a technical leader/coordinator and/or project manager, preferably in the field of vacuum technology
- R&D experience in vacuum systems for fusion research, particle accelerators or industrial experience in vacuum systems for semiconductors and/or superconductors
*Language requirements:
- Fluent in English (C1/C2)
- Knowledge (B1 or higher) of French is a plus
*Technical competencies:
- Competence with SolidWorks or ANSYS or COMSOL or other computational software
- Project management from design to assembly
- Previous experience with systems containing liquid-vacuum interfaces
