Quench modeler
We are looking for a quench modeler to develop models to understand and predict quench phenomena in High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets. The work contributes to ensuring the safety and reliability of HTS magnets under extreme operating conditions.
Your main responsibilities will be:
*Quench modelling:
- Develop physical and numerical models to characterize quench processes in HTS magnets, considering the unique electromagnetic and thermal properties of HTS materials.
- Evaluate the risks associated with quench phenomena and propose mitigation strategies to minimize the impact on the performance of the fusion reactor.
- Contribute to the optimization of the design of HTS magnets to improve their resistance to quench and durability under severe operating conditions.
- Collaborate with experimental teams to validate quench models using data from tests conducted on prototype HTS magnets.
*Analysis:
- Analyze the electromagnetic behavior, AC losses and quench propagation in the HTS magnet system and its electrical feeders/joints in normal operational and fault conditions.
*Scientific communication and monitoring:
- Prepare scientific/technical reports (presentations, posters, etc.) and represent Renaissance Fusion to scientific conferences and workshops.
- Participate in the writing of scientific papers.
- Remain on the lookout for any scientific developments related to your main responsibilities and field of expertise.
You are the ideal profile if:
*Education and professional experience:
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical, electro-mechanical engineering, physics, material science or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in modelling electromagnetic and thermal phenomena.
- Previous experience in the superconductor/magnet industry or high-tech laboratories is a plus.
*Language requirements:
- Fluent in English (C1).
- Knowledge (B1 or higher) of French is a plus.
*Technical competencies:
- Deep understanding of the properties of superconducting materials, particularly HTS is a plus.
- Experience using electromagnetic and thermal simulation software such as COMSOL Multiphysics or ANSYS.
- Knowledge of standards and safety practices related to the use of HTS magnets
- Knowledge of design or fabrication of superconducting magnets, particularly using HTS materials, is a plus.
